Notice: Celebrating Effingham & Little Bookham Heritage

Saturday, September 9 will see Effingham and Little Bookham celebrate their local heritage as part of the Heritage Open Days event.

Heritage Open Days allow visitors free access to interesting properties that are either not usually open, or would normally charge an entrance fee.

The event in Effingham and Little Bookham is sponsored and co-ordinated by Effingham Residents Association and supported by Effingham Parish Council Community Fund.

12th century St Lawrence Church, Effingham

A total of 9 historic buildings will be opening their doors to visitors on the day, including St Lawrence Church, a Grade II listed church dating back from the 12th century, which has the grave of Sir Barnes Wallis in the churchyard.

Other buildings in the area welcoming visitors on the day include The Methodist Chapel, Effingham Golf Club, St Teresa’s School and All Saints church in Little Bookham.

Grade II listed Effingham Golf Club dates from the 18th century.

Some locations will also offer refreshments.

There will be a free hourly bus service to and from St Teresa’s School.

Opening times are 9am to 5pm, though there are some exceptions.
