Teenager Charged With Burpham Church Arson

An 18-year-old local man has been charged with arson following an attack on a church at Burpham in May.

The Church of the Holy Spirit, Burpham

He is on conditional bail and is due to appear at South West Surrey Magistrates Court on July 26.

The Church of the Holy Spirit in New Inn Lane was targeted during the early hours of Saturday, May 12.

Hymn books, leaflets, a computer monitor and a chair were put together in a pile and set alight. A candle on the altar was lit, a fire extinguisher was torn down and writing was found on the floor.  £3,400 worth of damage was caused.
