Guildford City Football Club are delighted to have had confirmation that the team will play in the Evo-stik Southern League next season.
Guildford clinched promotion this year after winning the Combined Counties League for a second consecutive season. It is 38 years since Guildford last played in the prestigious Southern League, where “The City” were for many years one of the country’s leading non-league clubs.
Sadly, after a period of uncertainty, the original Guildford City finally succumbed to financial pressures in 1974. In 1996 the club was reborn, and finally now in 2012 the club has returned to its footballing roots after confirmation from the FA this week.
For all City fans August 2012 will see an emotional return to the Southern League, with exciting looking fixtures, including against old rivals Rugby Town, and a local derby against Godalming Town.
